Relive The 35th Anniversary Of Armstrong Women's Athletics !


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University athletic department successfully celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Armstrong Women's Athletics on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4 in a weekend-long celebration for former and current student-athletes.

Friday evening, more than 200 people attended a reception to honor former Pirates who came back to Armstrong. All former female student-athletes were awarded a letter by Armstrong Director of Athletics Lisa Sweany and University President Dr. Linda Bleicken. Former WTOC TV-11 Sports reporter and Division I softball athlete Melissa Maikos served as emcee and the gathered also heard from Sweany, Bleicken and Richmond Hill Asst. Principal and member of the inaugural Armstrong softball team Jane Lynes.

Saturday, many former Armstrong softball players watched the Pirates pick up a 3-1 season-opening win over Florida Tech - coached by former Armstrong student-athlete Val Silvestrini - and all former student-athletes were recognized on Saturday evening at halftime of Armstrong's women's basketball game against nationally-ranked USC Aiken.
