The AlphaGraphics Armstrong Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2014 is senior volleyball player Stephanie Sfara.
AlphaGraphics and the Armstrong athletic department are teaming up to honor one student-athlete each month that best represents the Pirates' drive to succeed on the field and in the classroom. The Pirates have won the Peach Belt Conference Commissioner's Cup three straight years and the Presidential Academic Award the last two years and success can not happen without the efforts of our outstanding student-athletes.
A native of Boardman, Ohio, Sfara currently carries a 3.851 GPA in rehabilitation sciences. A preseason All-Peach Belt Conference honoree before the year, Sfara has been a big part of the No. 20-ranked Armstrong volleyball squad's outstanding start to the 2014 season. In the month of September, the Pirates went 10-1, including a 3-2 road win over then-No. 12 Wingate on September 13th, the highest ranked opponent that Armstrong has beaten since 2000.
During the month, Sfara earned PBC Player of the Week honors on September 8th while hitting .307 with 138 kills (3.54 per set) and 130 digs (3.33 digs/set). She notched double-digit kills in nine matches, including a high of 19 kills in the 3-2 win at Wingate, while also notching double-digit digs in eight matches. Sfara ranks among the Peach Belt Conference's leaders in hitting percentage, kills per set and service aces per set. She was the PBC Tournament MVP as a junior in 2013 and she is a three-time member of the PBC Presidential Honor Roll.
