No. 7 Pirates Blast Pfeiffer, 15-4, For Seventh Straight Win

PEMBROKE, N.C. - Senior Drew Walker and junior Zach Taylor launched two-run home runs to help lead the No. 7-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad to its seventh straight win in a 15-4 victory over Pfeiffer on Tuesday in Pembroke, N.C.

The Pirates improve to 28-9 overall with the win, while Pfeiffer falls to 21-19 in the neutral-site contest, played on the campus of UNC Pembroke.

Pfeiffer started the game off by scoring the first four runs of the contest. Cole McGraw's RBI single put the Falcons up, 1-0, in the first, then Pfeiffer tacked on three runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Kevin Price and a sacrifice fly by Preston Lyon.

Armstrong answered with three runs in the bottom of the second - two on Walker's fourth home run of the season - and then the Pirates took the lead for good with a six-run third inning, highlighted by RBI singles from John Roberts and Casey Maloney.

After a lengthy lightning delay in the bottom of the fourth inning, the first of two in the contest, the Pirates tacked on two more runs on Clayton Miller's two-run double. Taylor added his two-run home run in the fifth and the Pirates capped the scoring with a three-run seventh inning that included an RBI double by Walker.

Chess Malone (2-1) picked up the win for the Pirates with four innings of one-hit relief, striking out two. Keith Little (1-2) took the loss for the Falcons, giving up four hits and eight runs - seven earned - in two innings of work, walking five while striking out one.

Walker drove in four runs in a 2-for-3 day to lead the Pirates offensively, while Taylor went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and Miller drove in three.

Price went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Falcons on the evening.

Armstrong returns to action on Friday, April 13, traveling to Flagler for a 7:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest in St. Augustine, Fla.
