No. 7 Pirates Notch Eighth Straight Win, Down Flagler 4-1

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Senior lefthander Chandler Hall hurled a four-hit complete game, giving up just one run to lead the No. 7-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad to a 4-1 Peach Belt Conference series-opening win over host Flagler College on Friday evening at Drysdale Field in St. Augustine, Fla.
The Pirates (29-9, 14-8 PBC) ran their current win streak to eight with the win, while Flagler (23-17, 10-12 PBC) dropped its ninth Peach Belt game out of its last 10 contests.
Armstrong pushed across the first run of the game in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by sophomore Clayton Miller, scoring senior John Roberts with the first run of the game.
The Pirates added another run in the top of the third inning on a throwing error by shortstop Devon Hellett that allowed junior Zach Taylor to score and make the lead 2-0.
Armstrong plated two more in the top of the seventh against reliever Max Kreuter. Kreuter walked Taylor and senior Alex Frederick to put two on in the frame and, after recording two outs, the Pirates' senior Drew Walker drove a single off the right field wall to score Taylor. With runners at the corners, a pickoff throw to first got away from first baseman John Sgromolo, allowing Frederick to score and make it 4-0.
Flagler got its only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Hellett. With two on and two out, Hall got Will Percy to line into a double play at first to end the inning, then the lefty retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth to close out the victory.
Hall (6-2) threw 112 pitches in his fourth complete game effort of the season, giving up just four singles and one walk while striking out six. Danny Brown (3-2) was the hard-luck loser for the Saints, giving up five hits and two runs - one earned - in six innings of work, walking three while striking out six.
Taylor went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base to pace the Pirates at the plate, while Walker went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Armstrong wraps up its three-game series with the Saints on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Drysdale Field.
