Armstrong Ranked No. 25 In Collegiate Baseball 2012 Preseason Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad is ranked No. 25 in the 2012 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Division II rankings, released by the publication in the new year.

The Pirates finished 35-17 overall last season and return their top four hitters, as well as two of their top starting pitchers. Armstrong advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

The ranking is the second for Armstrong this spring as the Pirates are ranked No. 27 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason rankings as well.

West Florida is ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, followed by fellow Peach Belt Conference school Francis Marion at No. 2. Central Missouri is No. 3, followed by Grand Valley State at No. 4 and Mount Olive at No. 5.

Columbus State is ranked No. 15 with UNC Pembroke checking in at No. 19 and February opponent Southern Indiana at No. 21. Georgia College is No. 23 and North Georgia is No. 35 giving the Peach Belt six schools that appear in the preseason rankings.

Armstrong opens the 2011 season on Friday, February 3, hosting Winston-Salem State at 2:00 p.m.
