Three Pirates Earn Capital One/CoSIDA All-Academic District Baseball Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University junior second baseman Mike Barnhill, sophomore catcher/designated hitter Clayton Miller and sophomore outfielder Cody Powell were all named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District III Baseball squad on Thursday. All three players were named to the first team and will advance to national balloting for possible Academic All-America honors.
Barnhill, who was named to the Peach Belt Conference's All-Academic Team on Wednesday, carries a 3.47 GPA in liberal studies for the No. 9-ranked Pirates. A native of Lake Forest, Calif., Barnhill is hitting .261 with eight doubles and 26 RBIs while fielding .973 as a part of the Pirates' nationally-ranked seventh defense and is one of six infielders named to the squad.
Miller, meanwhile, carries a 3.36 GPA in rehabilitation sciences and this year earned Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honors on February 14th. The Augusta, Ga., native is hitting .295 with one home run and 25 RBIs in his second season with the Pirates and also was named to the PBC's All-Academic Team yesterday.
Powell is the third member from the Pirates on the All-District squad, carrying a 3.34 GPA in rehabilitation sciences. The Locust Grove, Ga., native ranks fourth in the Peach Belt Conference in slugging percentage this season at .575. Overall, Powell is hitting .340 with 14 doubles, six home runs and 45 RBIs in 2012.

The Pirates wrap up the 2012 regular season by hosting Erskine on Friday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Pirate Field. Armstrong will begin action in the 2012 PBC Championships as the top seed from the East Division, facing North Georgia on Wednesday, May 9, at 12:30 p.m. at Golden Park in Columbus, Ga.
