No. 7 North Georgia Completes Series Sweep With 4-0 Win Over Pirates

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - No. 7-ranked University of North Georgia completed a Peach Belt Conference baseball series sweep with a 4-0 win over visiting Armstrong State University on Sunday afternoon at Bob Stein Field.

The Nighthawks moved to 16-4 overall and 5-1 in the PBC with the wins, while Armstrong State fell to 13-9 overall and 0-6 in the league. The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Belmont Abbey for a 5:00 p.m. contest in Belmont, N.C.

A Trevor Sams solo home run put North Georgia up 1-0 in the second inning. The score remained 1-0 up until the seventh inning, when the Nighthawks plated three runs on a three-run home run by Michael Gouge.

Daniel McCrary (4-1) scattered eight hits in the complete-game shutout, striking out four, to notch the win for the Nighthawks. Sam Goberdhan (3-1) took the loss for the Pirates, giving up six hits and four runs, walking two while striking out 10 in seven innings of work.

Cal Young and Chandler Corley had two hits apiece for the Pirates, while Gouge's three RBIs led the Nighthawks.
