SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong State University junior Matt Meeks has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Meeks pitched 8.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out five as he picked up a 6-3 win over No. 21-ranked UNC Pembroke in the final game in Armstrong State program history. The junior righthander from Kite, Ga., scattered nine hits and gave up three walks, recording all but the final out on 138 pitches. Meeks is ranked in the PBC top 10 in ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched.
He becomes the last weekly award winner in Armstrong State baseball history. Meeks is the 42nd Pirate to earn a PBC Pitcher of the Week honor since the league instituted the award in 1993. There have been 46 PBC Player of the Week honors for the Pirates in Armstrong State history, as well as 22 Freshman of the Week award winners since that award was instituted in 2009.
