Motes, Tilton Earn All-Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Honors

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The No. 24-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team placed a pair of players on the 2012 All-Conference team, announced Sunday evening at the league's annual awards banquet prior to the Peach Belt Conference Golf Championships at Callaway Gardens. Senior Matt Motes earned first-team honors while junior Jacob Tilton earned second-team honors.

Motes earns first-team honors after being a second-team All-Conference honoree in both 2009-10 and 2010-11. The Augusta, Ga., native carries at team-best 72.83 stroke average in all 24 rounds played for the Pirates this season, notching four Top 10 finishes and fashioning 10 rounds of par or better this season.

Tilton, meanwhile, earns his first Peach Belt honor since being named the league's Freshman of the Year in 2009-10. The Evans, Ga., native carries a 73.14 stroke average this season with seven of his 14 rounds at par or better. He finished in the top three in five events, including a season-high third place finish at the GC Bobcat Invitational that included a season-best round of 65.

This is the first season in which the Pirates have placed two players on the All-Conference squad since 2006-07, when Chris Wolfe and Andrew Workman were All-Conference honorees.

Motes joins Wolfe (2005-06 through 2008-09) as the only Armstrong men's golfers to earn All-Conference honors three times in a career.

The No. 24-ranked Pirates begin action in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Monday at the Callaway Gardens Lake View course with two rounds of action, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
