Matt Motes Named GCAA Honorable Mention All-America

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University senior men's golfer Matt Motes has earned NCAA Division II honorable mention All-American honors, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) this week.
Motes becomes the ninth Armstrong men's golfer to earn All-America honors since the reinstatement of the Pirate golf program in 2000-01 and he is the first honoree since Chris Wolfe earned Honorable Mention honors in 2008-09.
The Augusta, Ga., native carried a team-best 72.93 stroke average in 30 rounds of action this season, earning All-Peach Belt Conference honors while ranking sixth in the league in stroke average. He notched five Top 10 finishes this season and finished ninth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, missing an individual berth to the NCAA National Championships by just two strokes.
Motes is one of twelve Peach Belt Conference golfers mentioned among the All-America teams, joining first-teamers Matt Atkins (USC Aiken) and Jordan Walor (UNC Pembroke), third-teamers Patrick Garrett (Georgia College), J.P. Griffin (Ga. Southwestern) and Craig Gibson (Georgia Southwestern) and fellow Honorable Mention honorees Hayden Letien (USC Aiken), Jonathan McCurry (UNC Pembroke), Greg Mergel (Flagler) and Taylor Smith and Ryan Trocchio (Georgia College).
