ORANGE PARK, Fla. - The Armstrong State University men's golf team leads by three strokes after the first day of the 2016 Fleming Island Spring Kickoff intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at Fleming Island Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla.
The Pirates carded rounds of 284 and 288 for a 572 total, three strokes ahead of Carson Newman and Palm Beach Atlantic, who sit tied for second with 575 totals. North Greenville (578) and Lander (582) round out the top five teams in the 17-team field.
Junior Jake O'Bryan carded rounds of 69 and 68 to sit third individually with a five-under-par 137 total. Freshman Rickard Wallin, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot rounds of 67 and 73 for a two-under-par 140 total, tying for eighth place. Senior Howard Hickey carded rounds of 73 and 74 to sit tied for 25th with a five-over-par 147 total.
Sophomore Jacob Tinsley is tied for 38th after two rounds of 75 for a 150 total, while sophomore Reid Rathburn is also tied for 38th after rounds of 77 and 73 for a 150 total. Sophomore Tyler Key, playing as an individual, is tied for 10th after rounds of 72 and 70 for a two-under-par 142 total.
Play concludes with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
