ORANGE PARK, Fla. - The Armstrong State University men's golf team fired a final-round 293 to capture the 2016 Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University, by four strokes on Tuesday at Fleming Island Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla.
The Pirates' three-round total of 865 finished four strokes ahead of Carson-Newman (869) and eight strokes ahead of Palm Beach Atlantic (874). North Greenville (875) and West Georgia (879) rounded out the top five schools in the 17-team field.
Junior Jake O'Bryan carded a three-under-par 68 to finish the tournament with an eight-under-par 205 total, finishing in second place individually. O'Bryan was just one stroke off of the individual champion, Christian Constance of North Greenville, who shot a nine-under-par 204 score.
Freshman Rickard Wallin concluded his first collegiate tournament by shooting a two-over-par 73 score to finish tied for eighth individually with an even-par 213 total. Senior Howard Hickey carded a four-over-par 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th with a 222 total.
Sophomore Reid Rathburn shot a final-round 77 to finish tied for 49th with a 227 total, while sophomore Jacob Tinsley shot an 83 to finish tied for 64th with a 233 total. Playing as an individual, sophomore Tyler Key shot a 74 to finish tied for 13th with a 216 total.
This is the first tournament win for Armstrong State men's golf since the Pirates captured the Rollins McDonough Cup on Oct. 29, 2013.
Armstrong State will be next in action on February 22-23, hosting the 2016 Pirate Men's Golf Invitational at Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Pooler, Ga.
