VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Armstrong State University men's golf team fired a final-round 295 to finish in ninth at the 2016 First Federal Southern Collegiate, hosted by Valdosta State University at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
The Pirates' three-day 886 total was good for ninth in the 18-team field that featured 11 nationally-ranked teams in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. No. 6-ranked Florida Southern (862) won the tournament by three strokes over No. 3-ranked Nova Southeastern (865), with No. 5-ranked Lynn (867) in third place and No. 4-ranked West Florida (868) in fourth. No. 7-ranked Barry and top-ranked Saint Leo tied for fifth with 873 team scores.
Junior Jake O'Bryan and freshman Rickard Wallin each shot even-par 72 scores on Tuesday to finish the tournament with three-over-par 219 totals, tying for 21st individually. Senior Howard Hickey carded a final-round 75 and sophomore Tyler Key shot a final-round 76 to each finish tied for 48th individually with 224 totals. Sophomore Reid Rathburn shot a 76 to finish tied for 75th individually with a 231 total.
Armstrong State returns to action on March 21-22 at the GC Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Ga.
