Pirates Ready To Raid The Georgia Open This Weekend In Richmond Hill

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. - The Georgia Open - a professional golf tournament sponsored by the Georgia PGA that has been played every year since 1954 - will have a bevy of current, future or former Armstrong State University players when play begins on Thursday at the Ford Plantation in nearby Richmond Hill, Ga.

Out of the 144-player field that features many successful professional and amateur players, eight are former Armstrong State players - Tripp Coggins (2003-06), Aaron Elrod (2009-11), Taylor Gove (2011-12), Howard Hickey (2013-16), Joseph Jarrard (2013-15), Jacob Tilton (2009-13), Shad Tuten (2012-14) and Justin Wylie (2009-14).

Two current Pirates are in the field as well - rising junior Tyler Key and rising senior Jake O'Bryan - as well as one incoming freshman, Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville, Ga.).

"I'm incredibly excited to see so many Pirates playing in the Georgia Open at the Ford Plantation this week," Armstrong State head coach Michael Butler said. "It will be a great test of golf for all of the players. The Georgia Open is one of the biggest golf tournaments in the state and would love to see one or more of our 11 players in contention for the title."
