KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Armstrong State University men's golf team fired a first-round 285 to sit in third place at the 2016 Kiawah Island Invitational on Monday afternoon at the Osprey Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Pirates are five strokes off the lead in the 18-team field, currently held by Limestone (280), with Valdosta State (283) in second place. Lenoir-Rhyne, King (Tenn.) and Rollins are all tied for fourth with 290 team scores after Monday's first round.
Freshman Austin Mancilla leads the Pirates individually after a four-under-par 68, currently tied for third place, three strokes off the individual lead. Freshman Spencer Ball is in fifth place after a three-under-par 69, while junior Ryan Emery is tied for 21st after an even-par 72 on Monday. Juniors Jacob Tinsley and Reid Rathburn each shot four-over-par 76 scores to sit tied for 61st, rounding out the Pirate scoring.
Play concludes at the Kiawah Island Invitational with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday. The Pirates will tee off at 10:20 a.m.
