No. 3 Pirates Open Season With 9-0 Win At No. 18 Saint Leo


SAINT LEO, Fla. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team opened up the 2012 dual match season successfully with a 9-0 victory over No. 18-ranked Saint Leo University on Thursday afternoon in Saint Leo, Fla.

The Pirates (21-0) captured all six singles matches in straight sets while sweeping doubles play from the Lions (0-1).

In doubles, the No. 3-ranked duo of Matus Mydla and Pedro Scocuglia defeated the No. 21-ranked duo of Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Mikk Irdoja and Daniel Regan earned an 8-6 win over Jake Fleischer and Alou Adjenak at No. 2 doubles, while Eudaldo Bonet and Georgi Rumenov bested Antoine Raffaelli and Gonzalez Tarrio, 8-5.

Rumenov completed his successful Armstrong debut by knocking off No. 32-ranked Nicholson-Lewis, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while No. 2-ranked Bonet bested No. 27-ranked Lozier, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Irdoja defeated Rafaelli, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles while Regan beat Tarrio, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

No. 39-ranked Sven Lalic beat Fleischer, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles and No. 23-ranked Jean-Michel Blouin knocked off Jose Morales, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 6 singles to complete the sweep.

Armstrong returns to action on Friday afternoon, visiting No. 8 Rollins for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Tars in Winter Park, Fla.
