Four Pirates Earn ITA DII All-America Men's Tennis Honors


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Four members of the NCAA Division II National Champion Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team have earned 2012 All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), released this week.

Senior Mikk Irdoja and sophomore Georgi Rumenov earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles, while senior Eudaldo Bonet and junior Matus Mydla earned All-American honors in singles. Players earn ITA All-American honors by virtue of a Top 20 ranking in singles and a Top 10 ranking in doubles.

Irdoja earns All-American honors for the fourth straight season as he finished the 2012 season ranked No. 4 in singles and No. 1 in doubles. The Tallinn, Estonia, native has earned both singles and doubles in each of the last three years while earning All-American doubles honors in 2009. This year, Irdoja was a perfect 19-0 in singles play and 29-2 in doubles play.

Rumenov earns his first career All-American honors as he finished the 2012 season as the top-ranked singles and doubles player in Division II. The Barcelona, Spain, native went 21-1 in singles and 29-2 in doubles play in 2012 and also earned Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year honors.

Bonet wraps up his four-year career as a four-time All-American honoree in singles for the Pirates as he was ranked No. 3 in the nation this season. The Barcelona, Spain, native also went 21-1 in singles play in 2012.

Mydla earns his first career All-American honors in singles for the Pirates, checking in at No. 12 in the nation. The Trencin, Slovakia, native went an undefeated 21-0 in singles play during the dual match 2012 season and 29-2 overall.
