FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong State University men's tennis team earned three All-Peach Belt Conference singles and two doubles honors at the league's annual awards banquet on Thursday evening in Florence, S.C.
Four players in all were honored for the second-seeded Pirates, who open up Peach Belt Conference tournament play on Friday, taking on seventh-seeded Georgia College at 1:00 p.m.
Senior Luca Cerin was named a first-team honoree in singles. The No. 8-ranked player in the nation, Cerin was a PBC Player of the Week honoree on February 28th, has four wins over nationally-ranked opponents this season and this is his first All-Conference singles honor.
Cerin and fellow senior Ignacio Hernandez earned first-team doubles honors as well on Thursday. The No. 19-ranked duo in the nation, the pair went a perfect 9-0 in the conference in doubles play and overall are 17-2 this Spring.
Hernandez earns second-team All-Peach Belt singles honors for going 8-1 in the PBC and 14-3overall this Spring. The No. 48-ranked singles player in the nation, Hernandez capped his four-year Pirate career by going 32-2 in conference singles play in his career.
Sophomore Alberto Caceres Casas is the third All-Conference singles honoree for the Pirates, earning second team honors. The No. 13-ranked singles player in the nation, Caceres Casas went 5-2 in PBC play and 12-4 overall this season, earning PBC Player of the Week honors on April 11th.
Caceres Casas and junior Jan Porteset teamed up to earn All-PBC second team doubles honors to round out the Pirates' accolades. The No. 6-ranked doubles duo in the nation went 4-1 in PBC action and 9-5 overall this Spring, while also capturing the ITA's Southeast Region doubles title in the Fall.
