Men's Tennis Finishes 2017 Season Ranked No. 7 In NCAA Division II

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong State University men's tennis team finished the 2017 season ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, with Wednesday's release of the final ITA Division II Men's Tennis rankings.

The Pirates finished the season with a 20-8 overall record and did not shy away from top competition as 11 of Armsrong State's 28 matches came against teams that appear in the final Top 10 national team rankings. 

National champion West Florida is the top-ranked team in the nation in the final poll, followed by Barry, Columbus State, Hawai'i Pacific, Valdosta State and Lynn ahead of the Pirates. Saint Leo, Lander and Embry-Riddle wrap up the Top 10 teams.

Individually, the Pirates' doubles duo of seniors Luca Cerin and Ignacio Hernandez finished the year ranked No. 18 in the nation in doubles. The pair went 19-5 this Spring season, including compiling an 11-3 mark at No. 1 doubles for the Pirates.

In singles rankings, Cerin finished the season ranked No. 39 in the nation after going 15-14 in singles play in 2016-17, playing all of his Spring matches at No. 1 singles for the Pirates.
