Armstrong Second In First NCAA Softball Southeast Region Rankings

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University softball team checks in at No. 2 in the first NCAA Southeast Region softball rankings, released by the NCAA regional advisory committee on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pirates (37-8) check in behind only North Georgia (35-7), who is the top-ranked team in the region. Lenoir-Rhyne (40-11) is third, followed by Augusta State (28-12) in fourth, followed by USC Aiken (24-11) in fifth. Armstrong will face USC Aiken on Friday and Augusta State on Sunday in PBC action this week.
Flagler (34-14) is sixth, followed by Catawba (30-15) in seventh, Francis Marion (29-13) in eighth, Columbus State (31-17) in ninth and Carson-Newman (28-19) in 10th.
Eight teams will advance to the 2012 NCAA DII Softball Championships - three automatic bids for the conference champions from the PBC, SAC and Conference Carolinas, as well as five at-large bids.
