MELBOURNE, Fla. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong State University softball squad completed its first weekend of action with a 10-3 win over Nova Southeastern on Sunday morning in the Florida Tech Marriott First Pitch Classic in Melbourne, Fla.
The Pirates finish the weekend with a 4-1 record. Armstrong State will be next in action on February 17th-19th at the Florida Tech Marriott Brawl at the Beach in Melbourne, Fla.
Nova Southeastern tied the game with single runs in the first and second innings. Megan Granitto delivered an RBI single in the first, and Alex Suzuki had an RBI double in the second.
The Pirates plated a pair of runs in the third inning on sophomore Logan Harrell's two-run triple, then extended the lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning on freshman Tazha Williams' RBI double and sophomore Macy Coleman's RBI single.
Armstrong State then put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with four runs on a two-RBI double by sophomore Sierra Peebles, an RBI double by Williams and an error.
Nova Southeastern plated a run in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Dana Edmundson.
Peebles (3-0) went the distance for the Pirates, giving up six hits and three runs in seven innings, walking four while striking out two. Coleman went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Williams finished the day with a pair of doubles and two RBI.
