MELBOURNE, Fla. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong State University softball squad split a pair of games at the Florida Tech Marriott Brawl at the Beach on Saturday thanks to sophomore Sierra Peebles' five-inning no-hitter in a 14-0 win over East Stroudsburg. The Pirates lost 5-1 to No. 16 Saint Leo in the first game of the day.
Armstrong State (6-2) will wrap up action at the tournament on Sunday, facing host Florida Tech at 11:00 a.m. and No. 16 Saint Leo again at 1:30 p.m.
Peebles (4-0) struck out three in the contest, hurling five innings of no-hit ball and only missing out on a perfect game because of a hit batter in the first inning. The no-hitter is the first for the Pirates since Jane Trzaska's 9-0 five-inning no-hitter of Lander on March 21st, 2015.
The Pirates scored four runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Logan Harrell, an RBI single by Katie Collins and an error, then broke the game open with a nine-run third inning, highlighted by two RBI singles in the inning by Collins.
Collins finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Harrell and Connor Weaver each had two RBI.
In the first game of the day, Saint Leo's Stephanie Adkins limited the Pirates to just three hits and one run, walking four and striking out nine in the complete-game win. Hannah Reppert delivered the Pirates' lone run of the game with a solo home run - her sixth of the season - in the first inning, while Autum Parrish added a triple.
Jane Trzaska (1-2) took the loss in the circle, giving up three hits and five runs - four earned - in 3 1/3 innings of work, walking two while striking out six.
