GREENWOOD, S.C. - Lander University shot 50 percent from the field in picking up an 86-62 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Armstrong State University on Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena in Greenwood, S.C.
The Bearcats improved to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Pirates fell to 7-11 and 3-6 in the league. Armstrong State returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Augusta at 5:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
Lander forced eight turnovers by Armstrong State in the first quarter to build a 20-14 lead. The Bearcats then hit 10-of-15 shots from the floor in the second quarter to take a 48-28 lead at the break and go on to the victory.
Senior Jessica Doyle and sophomore Brianna Gipson each collected 14 points to lead the Pirates. Doyle hit 5-of-10 shots from the floor, including 3-of-7 three-pointers, to go with three steals. Freshman Imari Montalvo collected 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Lander placed four players in double figures, led by Breshay Johnson's 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jessica Harris added 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-4 three-pointers, while Mylea McKenith added 17 points and Ty'Hesha Reynolds notched 14 points.
