Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season With 77-68 Win At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Armstrong State University women's basketball team closed out the 2016-17 regular season with a 77-68 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Flagler College on Wednesday evening in St. Augustine, Fla.

The Pirates (10-18, 6-13 PBC) finish the year with two straight wins, while Flagler ends the year at 5-21 overall and 3-16 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Armstrong State led by five points, 15-10, at the end of the first quarter and stretched that halftime lead to seven points, 41-34, by shooting 50 percent from the floor in the second quarter.

The Pirates then opened the second half on a 9-0 run, capped by a layup by senior Brooklyn Heilman with 5:54 left in the third quarter, to build a 50-34 lead and cruise to the victory.

Junior Machala Raymonville led all scorers on the night with 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore Brianna Gipson added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Flagler placed three players in double figures, led by Tiffany Hodge's double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Bri Roberts added 16 points and Kierra Crane chipped in 11 points.

The Pirates shot 46 percent from the floor (29-of-63), while shooting 40 percent from three-point range (4-of-10) and 75 percent from the free throw line (15-of-20). Flagler shot just 36.2 percent from the floor (25-of-69), while hitting just 3-of-22 three-pointers (13.6 percent) while also shooting 75 percent from the free throw line (15-of-20).
