Armstrong Tied For 8th At Ralph Hargett Memorial


CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's golf team shot a first-round 326 on Monday, tying for eighth place as a team after the first day of action at the Ralph Hargett Memorial, hosted by Wingate University at Olde Sycamore Golf Club in Charlotte.

The Pirates' first-day total puts them 19 strokes off the pace, currently set by Barry University after a first-round 307. Queens (NC) is in second after a 314, followed by Carson-Newman and Columbus State (319) tying for third and Florida Tech and Flagler (321) tying for fifth in the 17-team field. Armstrong is tied with host Wingate for eighth.

Senior Kim Knox paced the Pirates on the first day of action with a six-over-par 78, tying for 10th individually. Sophomore Jenna Birch is tied for 29th after a first-round 81, while sophomore Kristen Sammarco is tied for 37th after a first-round 82. 

Junior Kelly Pearce and senior Victoria Bennett rounded out the Pirates' scoring on the first day as each fired rounds of 85, tying for 58th individually.

Play concludes in the Ralph Hargett Memorial with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
