POOLER, Ga. - The Armstrong State University women's golf team welcomes in 11 other schools from around the nation for the 2017 Armstrong Pirate Women's Golf Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
The field for the Invitational features fellow Peach Belt Conference schools Columbus State, UNC Pembroke, North Georgia and Young Harris. South Atlantic Conference schools Lincoln Memorial and Newberry are in the field as well.
Sunshine State Conference schools Florida Tech and Saint Leo are in the field with Dallas Baptist, who competes in the Heartland Conference, and West Florida, out of the Gulf South Conference. NAIA's No. 6-ranked team, USC Beaufort, rounds out the field.
The latest GolfStat relative rankings report for NCAA Division II shows that four of the teams in the field are rated among the Top 20 in the nation - No. 3 Dallas Baptist, No. 5 Florida Tech, No. 8 Saint Leo and No. 19 West Florida. Host Armstrong State is currently rated No. 33.
This is the seventh year of the invitational and the host Pirates have won the tournament three times in the tournament's history - in 2013 and 2014 and last season. Nova Southeastern won in 2015 while UNC Pembroke won the tournament title in 2011 and 2012.
Play will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday with 36 holes of action. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a single round of 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m.
