KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Armstrong State University women's golf team fired a final-round 303 to capture the 2017 Barton Invitational by five strokes on Sunday at Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Pirates finished the two-day tournament with a 618 total, five strokes ahead of Limestone (623). Florida Southern (630) finished third, followed by Anderson (SC) (634) and Wingate (638).
Junior Sophie Bargeron led the Pirates by capturing her first career collegiate individual title, firing an even-par 72 to finish the tournament with a four-over-par 148 total, two strokes ahead of Limestone's Hailey Cleary (150).
Sophomore Nikita Arjun finished in sixth place individually after shooting a two-over-par 74 on Sunday for an eight-over-par 152 total. Freshman Eva Martinez Calavia shot an 82 to finish tied for 24th with a 160 total, while freshman Bailey Buie fired a 75 to finish tied for 30th with a 161 total. Senior Molly Molyneaux rounded out the Pirates' scoring with a second consecutive 83 to finish tied for 44th with a 166 total.
The team title is the ninth for Armstrong State women's golf in the 12-year history of the program, while Bargeron is the sixth different Pirate to capture an individual title and the first since Kiley Mettler won the Armstrong Pirate Women's Invitational on March 3-4, 2014.
