No. 3 Armstrong Women's Tennis Opens Season With 9-0 Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team opened up the 2012 dual match season with a 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Augusta State on Friday afternoon at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta.
The Pirates (1-0, 1-0 PBC) did not drop a set in downing the Jaguars (3-3, 0-1 PBC) in both teams' Peach Belt openers as well.
Armstrong swept all three singles matches for a 3-0 lead over the Jaguars. No. 2-ranked Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova claimed an 8-2 win over Victoria Lindqvist and Julie Fontaine at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 25-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa beat Marina Ferreria and Roberta Oliviera, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez finished the sweep with an 8-2 win over Lissa Murakami and Liv Pettersson at No. 3 doubles.
The Pirates then notched straight set wins in all six singles matches for the victory. No. 2-ranked Krtickova beat Ferreria, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 6-ranked Filipovski blanked Lindqvist, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles and No. 50-ranked Kalodzitsa beat Pettersson, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
No. 22-ranked Henry knocked off Murakami, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and No. 15-ranked Hacke bested Oliveira, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles. No. 29-ranked Perez shut out Fontaine, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles as well.
The Pirates return to action on Sunday, February 19, hosting Georgia Southwestern State in its first home match of 2012 with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Bacon Park.
