No. 4 Pirates Pick Up Pair Of PBC Wins On Sunday


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team picked up a pair of Peach Belt Conference wins on Sunday, knocking off North Georgia and UNC Pembroke by 9-0 scores at Bacon Park. 

With the wins, the Pirates improve to 7-0 on the season, 5-0 in the Peach Belt Conference. 

In the first match of the day, Armstrong gave up just three games in doubles in taking a 3-0 lead over the Saints (5-5, 0-3 PBC). No. 2-ranked Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova beat Natalia Escobar and Juliana Chiang, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles while Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa blanked Audrey Marlette and Jordan Poole, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. No. 7-ranked Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez notched an 8-3 win over Nela Handac and Maria Romero at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates then swept all six singles matches in straight sets. No. 2-ranked Krtickova beat Escobar, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 6-ranked Filipovski beat Chiang, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Kalodzitsa picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marlette at No. 3 singles and No. 18-ranked Henry downed Poole, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.

No. 23-ranked Perez beat Handac, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and Jessica Gardefjord completed play with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Romero at No. 6 singles.

Armstrong then picked up the 9-0 win over UNC Pembroke (3-5, 0-4 PBC) in the second match of the day. No. 2-ranked Filipovski and Krtickova blanked Shelby Bickel and Mia Winterbottom, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles while Hacke and Kalodzitsa beat Hannah Herlocker and Leigh-Anne McAfee, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. No. 7-ranked Henry and Perez shut out Madeline DiNunzio and Monica Espitia, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates gave up just four games in singles to complete the win over the Braves. No. 2-ranked Krtickova bested Winterbottom, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while Kalodzitsa beat McAfee, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 18-ranked Henry beat Herlocker, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and No. 15-ranked Hacke beat Bickel, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.

No. 23-ranked Perez beat Dinunzio, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Gardefjord beat Espitia, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

Armstrong will next host Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference match on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Bacon Park.
