No. 3 Pirates Blank Valdosta State, 9-0, In Regular Season Finale


VALDOSTA, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team blanked Valdosta State, 9-0, to wrap up the 2012 regular season on Saturday in Valdosta, Ga.

The Pirates wrapped up the regular season slate with a 20-0 overall record, while Valdosta State dropped to 8-9 on the year with the loss.

Armstrong collected wins in all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova defeated Sara Braun and Alina Nagel, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. The No. 10-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa downed Michelle Fischer and Juliana Boehm, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 15-ranked duo of Clara Perez and Kathleen Henry beat Maja Ehses and Tina Trautmann, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates then won all six singles matches to complete the sweep, with five of the six coming in straight sets. No. 4-ranked Krtickova knocked off Fischer, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while No. 7-ranked Filipovski beat Braun, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. No. 23-ranked Henry downed Nagel, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles and No. 24-ranked Hacke defeated Boehm, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.

No. 30-ranked Perez beat Jessica Tuggle, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles and No. 20-ranked Kalodzitsa won a 10-point third-set tiebreaker to beat Trautmann, 6-7 (4), 6-0, (10-1) at No. 3 singles.

Armstrong returns to action on April 20 at the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championships in Greenwood, S.C.
