SUMTER, S.C. - Armstrong Atlantic State University junior Barbora Krtickova captured the ITA Southeast Regional singles title on Monday morning, knocking off top-seeded Paola Cigui of Columbus State, 6-4, 7-5, at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
Krtickova, the second seed in the draw, successfully defends her ITA Southeast Region title by knocking off Cigui, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year in Monday's final. Last season, Krtickova knocked off teammate Aleksandra Filipovski for the region title and, with her win today, runs the current streak to eight consecutive ITA Southeast Region singles titles for the Armstrong women.
Current Armstrong assistant coach Iuliia Stupak (now Sherrod) began that streak with wins in 2005 and 2006. She was followed by Johanna Dahlback (2007), Sona Novakova (2008, 2009) and Alida Muller-Wehlau (2010) before Krtickova's back-to-back wins.
Krtickova will now turn her attention to the ITA Southeast Region doubles final, where her and Filipovski will meet teammates Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa on Tuesday at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
Krtickova and the doubles winners will advance to the ITA Small College National Championships on October 11-14, in Mobile, Ala. She advanced to the Division II singles bracket final last season in Mobile.
