SAVANNAH, Ga. - The top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong State University women's tennis team blanked No. 2 (NAIA) Lindsey Wilson, 5-0, on Friday evening at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
The Pirates (3-0) also extended their current consecutive home match winning streak to 166 with the win over the Blue Raiders (3-2). Armstrong State will face a stiff test to that streak on Saturday at 1 p.m. as No. 3-ranked Lynn will play against the Pirates at the Armstrong Tennis Center.
Armstrong State picked up all three doubles points against Lindsey Wilson, beginning with No. 2-ranked Lena Lutzeier and Diana Stomlega downing Natalia Kattah and Maria Prados Cid, 8-2, at No. 1 singles. Tatjana Stoll and Paula Boixader Roca defeated Fiona Curty and Minja Gligic, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles, then Alice Patch and Tamri Chalaganidze downed Jovana Peric and Alex Schcipakina at No. 3 doubles by an 8-2 score.
The Pirates then picked up two straight-set wins in singles to clinch the match. Lutzeier downed Shchipakina, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 15-ranked Stomlega beat Curty, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. The rest of the singles matches were stopped once the match was clinched.
