SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong State University junior Lena Lutzeier has been named the Peach Belt Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Lutzeier went 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles for the top-ranked Armstrong State women's tennis team, as the Pirates played four Top 10-ranked opponents on the week. The No. 11-ranked singles player in the nation defeated No. 12 Diana Bogolli of Lynn and No. 24 Marine Beugre-Guyot of Saint Leo. The junior also beat No. 8 Middle Georgia's Preeti Gokhale on Wednesday, 7-5, 6-0, winning the last eight games in a row. Her only loss was to the top-ranked doubles duo in the nation in a rematch of the ITA DII Doubles Championship match in the Fall, pitting No. 1 vs. No. 2 (Lutzeier/Stomlega). Lutzeier is 5-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles on the young season.
This is the sixth career PBC Player of the Week honor for the Blaustein, Germany, native and the first this season.
Lutzeier and the Pirates return to action on Friday, traveling to No. 30-ranked USC Aiken for a 1:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against the Pacers.
