SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong State University senior Diana Stomlega has been named the Peach Belt Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Stomlega went 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles in the Pirates' three matches this week against top-ranked opponents. The senior from Peniscola, Spain, won in straight set singles over Kijasova of No. 7 Hawaii Pacific and over Schmidt of No. 14 Valdosta State. She teamed with Lena Lutzeier to win at No. 1 doubles, including handing undefeated Barry's team of Larsen and Pain their first doubles loss of the year. Stomlega is 9-2 in singles and 12-1 in doubles this season for the Pirates.
This is the first weekly honor for Stomlega this seasno and the second of her career - she was the league's Player of the Week on March 22, 2016.
Stomlega and the Pirates return to action on Friday, March 24th, visiting Georgia College for a 1:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match in Milledgeville.
