AMERICUS, Ga. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong State University women's tennis team notched a 9-0 Peach Belt Conference win over host Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday morning at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex in Americus.
The win moves the Pirates to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes fell to 5-13 overall and 0-7 in the league. Armstrong State returns to action on April 1, hosting No. 8 Flagler in a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
The Pirates dropped just three games total in doubles in sweeping all three matches. Lena Lutzeier and Paula Boixader Roca notched an 8-2 win over Maria Taboada and Celia del Castillo at No. 1 doubles, while Diana Stomlega and Tatjana Stoll collected an 8-1 win over Hannah Ayers and Kendall Crew at No. 2 doubles. Alice Patch and Tamri Chalaganidze blanked Charli Allen and Anneliese Leahy, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.
Armstrong State then won all six singles matches in straight sets. No. 5-ranked Lutzeier beat Taboada, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Boixader Roca downed del Castillo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 17-ranked Stoll blanked Ayers, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and Chalaganidze defeated Allen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Patch picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Crew at No. 5 singles and Lenka Styblova defeated Leahy, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
