SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong State University junior Lena Lutzeier has been named the Peach Belt Conference's baseball Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Lutzeier finished off a spectacular spring season with two wins in singles and doubles for the Pirates this week. The junior from Blaustein, Germany, downed No. 30 Auburn-Montgomery's Paula Diaz 6-0, 6-0 as the Pirates won 5-3. She also beat No. 33 Kathrin Waidner of No. 36-ranked North Georgia 6-2, 6-3. She was also 2-0 in doubles play with two different partners.
This is the fourth PBC Player of the Week honor for Lutzeier this year, and she finished the spring season with an impressive 21-1 singles and 22-1 doubles record.
Lutzeier and the second-seeded Pirates will open up action at the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Friday, taking on seventh-seeded Georgia College at 9:00 a.m. at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence, S.C.
