FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 4-ranked and second-seeded Armstrong State University women's tennis team defeated No. 31-ranked and seventh-seeded Georgia College, 5-0, in the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday morning at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence, S.C.
The Pirates (21-3) advance to the semifinals on Saturday, taking on No. 8-ranked and third-seeded Flagler - 6-0 winners over sixth-seeded Young Harris - at 9:00 a.m. Georgia College falls to 11-10 overall.
Armstrong State swept all three doubles matches from the Bobcats. The No. 3-ranked doubles duo of Lena Lutzeier and Diana Stomlega defeated Jena Kelly and Emma Niemi, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, while Tatjana Stoll and Lenka Styblova downed Macy Polk and Hannah Serdinia, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Tamri Chalaganidze and Alice Patch completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Kristen Jones and Camilla Negrini at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, No. 17-ranked Stoll defeated Kelly, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, then No. 5-ranked Lena Lutzeier clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Polk at No. 1 singles.
Armstrong State and Flagler met on April 1st in the regular season, with the Pirates taking a 7-2 win over the Saints.
