SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong State University women's tennis team is ranked No. 5 with Wednesday's release of the final 2017 ITA Division II National Rankings. Two Pirates - senior Diana Stomlega and junior Lena Lutzeier - earned All-American honors with the individual rankings release as well.
The Pirates finished the 2017 season with a 26-5 overall record, with all five losses coming to teams ranked above them in the final rankings - national champion Barry tops the team rankings, followed by BYU-Hawai'i, Lynn and Columbus State.
Armstrong State closes out its final season of competition by advancing to the NCAA Championships and the NCAA Round of 16 for a 23rd consecutive season in 2017. The 10-time NCAA DII National Champions advanced to the national semifinals for the 19th time in those 23 seasons as well.
Individually, the doubles duo of Stomlega and Lutzeier earned ITA All-American honors by finishing the season ranked No. 2 in the nation. The pair went 23-2 this Spring in doubles and went 5-2 against nationally-ranked doubles teams during the dual match season.
Lutzeier adds All-American singles honors as well as she finished the year ranked No. 4 in the nation after going a spectacular 28-1 this dual match season, with 11 wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
