No. 15 Pirates Rebound With 3-1 Win Over Lander


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 15-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad shook off early fatigue to collect a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over visiting Lander on Friday evening in Savannah. Set scores were: 21-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-7.

The Pirates (32-1, 12-1 PBC) hit just .083 in the first set, compared to .345 for Lander (13-16, 3-10 PBC), but Armstrong hit .333 the rest of the way in collecting the next three sets for the victory. Armstrong now needs to defeat USC Aiken on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to clinch its first Peach Belt regular season title since 2008 and fourth title overall.

A trio of Pirates led the way offensively with 11 kills each - junior Leia Pittman, junior Amanda Jones and sophomore Jessica Santaniello. Pittman hit .611 and also added five blocks, while junior setter Ashley Seal notched 33 assists and four service aces and senior Stacey Davis added 12 digs.

Hannah Dederick, Magi Nottingham and Rebekah Davis each collected eight kills to lead the Bearcats, while Jessica Register notched a match-high 37 assists and Kiki Hennessey added 16 digs.
